Making your own tortillas is great fun. Try them deep fried, griddled or baked.
Ingredients
7 OZ / 200 G masa harina
0.5 TSP salt
3.5 OZ / 100 G hot water
2 OZ / 60 ML water (iced cold)
1 TBSP vegetable shortening
Directions
Add your shortening into the mixing bowl along with flour and salt. Insert the measuring cup, knead for 30 seconds.
Add hot water straight through the top hole until the dough is formed. Knead again for 20 seconds. Each flour has a different water content so consistency may vary. You have to alter the amount of water.
Roll your taco dough into small 1 inch balls then place in-between a food bag. With a heavy pan press firmly down to create a flat circle.
Cook your tacos in a dry pan 20 seconds either side on a medium heat.
Enjoy your dish! Serve with your favorite fillings. Try deep frying the tacos for a crispy finish or baked them in the oven.
Recipe Note
TIP:
If you want flour tortilla tacos for the recipe, substitute the harina flour with all-purpose flour. You may need to adjust the ratios.
